The most amazing views of the San Francisco Bay are the ones from the center of the Bay – Angel Island! Cost: $17 (for ferry) Ferry: The Blue & Gold Ferry departs for Angel Island at 11:20am. Since we need to leave enough time for parking and buying tickets, *please show up on time* or we will have to leave you behind. You can buy tickets online if you prefer, but there is an additional service charge ($3): http://www.blueandgoldfleet.com/Ferry/Angel/angelislandsummerfall2010no51.cfm Hiking: There are two 5-mile loop hikes that go all around the island. One summits the island (all of 800 ft) and the other takes a fire road around the island with no elevation change. The plan is to do the summit hike, but if our group is big enough, we may split in two and give you a choice. We will arrive at Angel Island at 12:15 pm and finish in time for the the 4:40 pm ferry back to San Francisco. A 3:20 pm ferry back to SF is also available if you need to leave early. If you haven’t had enough adventure, the ferry also stops at Pier 41, for the same price. You can spend the evening checking out the attractions of the nearby Pier 39. It’s a 1.3 mile walk from Pier 39 back to the Ferry Building. What to Bring: Hat, sunscreen, water, hiking shoes, snacks, and money for the South Bay Carpool: A carpool from the South Bay will meet in the Smart & Final Parking Lot – 141 East El Camino Real, Mountain View, CA 94040-2701 (where the 237 ends and Grant Rd begins) at 9:30am. If you want us to wait for you there, please post to the Facebook event wall (https://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=229530710428306). For other carpools, please also post to the event wall. Parking: There are a variety of parking options within a few blocks. Validated Angel Island Trail Description: Map of the Island (map is on the last page): Organized by: Shelli C. |
