Who doesn’t love fried food. These fried goodies were a crowd pleasure taking 2nd place in the Sweet category. Congrats Ben!
Fried Apple Spirals
Serves: 8
Ingredients:
- 2 cups Krusteaz belgian waffle mix
- 1 cup water
- 1/2 cup sugar
- optionally, add in some cinnamon
- 4-5 Apples. (Granny Smiths, work well. Fujis are okay)
- fair quantity of canola oil for frying
Directions:
- In a bowl, mix the waffle mix, cinnamon, water, and sugar until smooth.
- Heat oil in a deep fryer. If you do not have a deep fryer, a reasonably deep skillet will work.
- Spiral and peel the apples. If you don’t have an apple spiraler (and, really, why would you?), then peel the apples, core them, and cut into slices about 1/4 inch thick.
- Coat the spirals/slices in batter, and deep fry until golden brown.
- Serve warm, preferably with honey for drizzling.
