Beth David’s Annual Christmas Luncheon for the Homeless

Posted by challahbackgirl on December 22, 2011

Beth David’s Social Action Committee once again brings you the opportunity to do a Mitzvah December 25th.

Annual Christmas Luncheon for the Homeless

Once again Social Action is providing a hot meal for the homeless at the Emergency Housing Consortium on Christmas Day.

Volunteers are needed to cook and freeze one large pan of oven baked beef stew. This easy to make, delicious meal can be prepared ahead of time and easily frozen.

Email Dorothy Dorsay at to get the recipe and to arrange  delivery times.  If you must have pickup, contact Judy Levin.

Monetary donations are also greatly needed to buy additional food such as salad and cookies.  Please send checks to CBD and notate “homeless meal.” Any amount would help. Thanks in advance!

Meet & Greet at Buca di Beppo in Palo Alto

Posted by challahbackgirl on December 18, 2011

When: 7pm-9pm, Wednesday, January 11, 2012

Where: Buca di Beppo 643 Emerson St, Palo Alto, CA 94301

This January, Jews’ Next Dor is revolutionizing our flagship event, Meet & Greet, and you won’t want to miss out! While we will be continuing our tradition of having January Meet & Greet at Buca di Beppo in Palo Alto, this month, for the first time, we will be charging a flat, upfront fee of ONLY $10! That’s right; thanks to a grant from the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, we are able to charge only $10/head for each Meet & Greet from now through June. We recognize that it can be a bit pricy to be an active participant in Jews’ Next Dor, and we are doing everything we can to combat that, especially in these tough economic times. If you or someone you know has been hanging back from our events due to cost, we encourage you to join us now and fully partake in the wonderful community we have built together over the years. And Buca di Beppo is the perfect location to launch such an initiative: the ultimate “family-style” restaurant, they are looking forward to again serving us a hearty Italian vegetarian/dairy meal and providing us a wonderful ambiance to schmooze with new friends and catch up with old ones. Come in from the cold to talk and laugh with fellow Jewish 20 & 30 somethings from the South Bay’s young adult Jewish community.

Please RSVP to JewsNextDor@beth-david.org, and remember to bring $10 cash.

Afterwards, walk across the street to cleanse your palette with some frozen yogurt from Fraiche (not included in $10 cost).

Organized by David H.

This program is made possible in part by the support of the Young Adult Department of The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism

Taglit-Birthright Israel with USCJ
Experience Israel through Conservative Judaism’s pluralistic lens

Taglit-Birthright Israel with United Synagogue Experience Israel through Conservative Judaism's pluralistic lens

The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism (USCJ) Young Adult Outreach Department has just announced that they are working with the Israel Experience LTD. to offer a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip in Summer 2012  for young adults between the ages of 22- 26. They are  collecting names of potential applicants at: http://taglit.theisraelexperience.org/referral-uscj. If you refer somebody, you will be entered into a drawing to win an iPad courtesy of The Israel Experience LTD. So spread the word, refer yourself or a friend, and they’ll keep you in the loop with registration information, and more. Here’s a few more details from USCJ:

From: http://www.uscj.org/YouthYoungAdults/YoungAdultOutreach/TaglitBirthrightIsraelwithUnitedSynagogue.aspx

Are you between 22 and 26? Do you know anyone else who is? Have you and your Jewish friends not yet been to Israel for more than five days with a group of people your age?

If your answers are yes or yes and then no, do we have an offer for you!

United Synagogue’s adult outreach department is excited to announce a Taglit-Birthright Israel trip planned for this summer. Working with The Israel Experience LTD, we are collecting names of potential applicants. Refer yourself or your friends at taglit.theisraelexperience.org/referral-uscj. If you refer someone, you will be entered in a drawing to win an iPad2, courtesy of The Israel Experience.

Registration for the trip will open on February 14 and will stay open for a very short time. You are not guaranteed a space on the trip if you refer your name now, but you will be emailed as soon as registration opens.

To be eligible for the gift of a trip to Israel from Taglit-Birthright Israel, you must be Jewish and not have been on a peer trip to Israel, so participants on such programs as USY Pilgrimage, Ramah seminar, and most day school trips cannot be considered. You are eligible, however, if you were on such a trip before you were 12 years old, or if you went to Israel with your family or a multi-generational group.

Experience Israel through Conservative Judaism’s pluralistic lens, or help Taglit-Birthright Israel give that gift to someone else.

Event: Ballroom Dance Party with Lesson

Posted by challahbackgirl on December 8, 2011

When: 8pm-1am, Saturday, January 7, 2012

Where: Cheryl Burke Dance, 1400 North Shoreline Blvd. #-A1, Mountain View, CA 94043

Always wanted to learn to social dance? For real? Join Jews’ Next Dor for lessons in two types of ballroom dance, and then practice at an all-night party at a great club. We’ll be doing at least a little of waltz, foxtrot, swing, tango, samba, rhumba, cha cha, salsa, nightclub two-step, hustle, and more! No partners required—there are always plenty of people.

Best of all, it’s all free!

8pm-9pm Free Lesson in two kinds of ballroom dance
9pm-1am Dance Party

Specific Directions:
On Shoreline Blvd just North of 101, turn into the Shoreline Movie Theater parking lot. Head straight left (you’re going kinda around the back). When you see the lit up POOL sign, head Right and then find some parking. You want the building with the lit up Cheryl Burke sign off to the right. Let them know you’re there for the Jews’ Next Dor Corporate Event.

Dress: Dressy casual recommended, but anything is fine. Wear comfortable shoes that are slippery on the bottom for the best dance experience (flip-flops not recommended, and tennis shoes can be hard to glide in). We suggest bringing water, though there are drinking fountains and soda machines.

For more information about Cheryl Burke Dance see http://www.cherylburkedance.com

Email us at JewsNextDor@beth-david.org with questions.
