Then it’s time to go to Oren’s Hummus Shop located at 261 University Ave, Palo Alto. This small hole in the wall “secret” is less than a month old. Join us on August 10, 2012 at 7pm for a truly authentic Israeli food experience!

The dinner will be between $12 and $20 per person, please bring cash with you. Small bills are appreciated. Invite your Jewish 20 and 30 something friends to join us too.

Event: Jews’ Next Dor & Yidventure: Point Reyes Beginner’s Hike

Hike through diverse forests and beautiful meadows that haven’t changed much since Sir Francis Drake discovered what is now Point Reyes National Seashore for Queen Elizabeth I! At a mere 3.2 miles, with almost no elevation change, this outing is great for beginners! We may even find some wild fruit along the way.

After our walk, we’ll also visit Drake’s Beach, renowned for its backdrop of dramatic white sandstone cliffs.

Since we’re going up to Marin County, this adventure will take the entire day. Please plan accordingly. Pack a dairy/vegetarian lunch with you. We will have dairy/vegetarian dinner at Tony Tutto Pizza in Mill Valley (246 E. Blithedale Ave., Mill Valley, CA).

If you live in the South Bay, your journey will be shorter and cheaper if you head up the 880 and meet for a carpool in Fremont, at 10am, in the parking lot of Panera Bread (43317 Christy St., Fremont, CA).

Post to the wall to organize other carpools, and/or to let us know to wait for you at the Fremont carpool.

You can also meet us at the Bear Valley Visitor Center at 12:30pm. Directions to the trailhead, as well as a description of a longer hike that includes the areas we will visit. Cell reception at Point Reyes is not great, so if you want to meet us there, PLEASE POST TO THE WALL, so we know to wait for you.

We’ll be hiking to Divide Meadow via the Bear Valley Trail. This casual stroll through mixed Douglas fir forest and along Bear Valley Creek leads to an open grassy meadow. Several benches along the way offer great resting spots in the shade, and Divide Meadow is a nice place to picnic in the sun.

Event: Jewish Heritage Night with the World Champion San Francisco Giants

When: August 2nd, 2011, 4pm-11pm
Where: AT&T Park — 24 Willie Mays Plz., San Francisco, CA

It’s not very often that a World Champion team is playing in your backyard. It’s even less often that that team hosts a special night for Jewish fans all over the Bay Area. At the 2011 Giants Jewish Heritage Night, you get both. What a deal!

This year, we’ll mix and mingle that much more by buying one big block of tickets for all the South Bay young adult groups to share. Think about it: a chance to meet new people while enjoying America’s favorite pastime: Jews. Wait, no: baseball.

Join Jews’ Next Dor, JUCI, Hillel at Stanford Grads and Young Professionals, Moishe House of Palo Alto, Oshman Family JCC, Roots Collective, SVYAD, T’Keya, and Temple Emanu-El’s Chai Society to watch the Giants demolish the Arizona Diamondbacks. Game time is 7:15 PM, but pre-game activities start about 5 pm with a kosher BBQ, music, and dancing. For $24, you get a ticket to the game and a Jewish-themed give-away. Purchase yours today!

CARPOOL INFORMATION

We’re hoping that Caltrain will still be providing special baseball service this summer, but in case that gets axed, let’s also gather some carpool information from you while we have your attention. In the event that we organize carpools, we will contact you with assignments, but it will be up to each car to determine how to split gas and parking expenses (which are not included in the price you are paying here).

If you would like to be included for carpools, please email amanda@jvalley.org with your response to the following questions:

Are you willing to be a driver? If yes, how many people, including yourself, can you take in your car?

What city will you be coming from? How many miles from your starting point are you willing to travel to meet your carpool?

Would you like to be up in the city for the pregame barbeque, or only the game? To get to the barbeque, carpools will have to be leaving the South Bay around 4:30; to only make it in time for the game, carpools will be able to leave closer to 6:00.

Do you miss G.I. Joe? Do you want to shoot other people with ineffectual lasers for minutes and minutes? Jews’ Next Dor has the answer — Laser Tag!

Get ready for the high-tech version of the classic games of tag and hide and seek. So pick a codename, strap on a sensor pack, and feel lucky, punk! We’ll play 3 games, first game at 8:20pm (must arrive by 8:00pm to participate) at LaserQuest in their multi-level arena with specialty lighting, swirling fog and music to play by. $20/person for 3 games including equipment.

Please note that white clothing will glow in the arena (blacklights) which might make you an easier target. Space is limited. RSVP to JewsNextDor@beth-david.org and start thinking of your code name.

Directions: From the south or east, take 101 or 85 N and get off at Shoreline. Turn right on Shoreline and then make a U-turn at the entrance to the movie theaters. Then turn right into the next parking lot.

Jews’ Next Dor is moving it’s monthly Shabbat dinner to the 4th Friday of the month starting with our July Potluck Shabbat. This event is at a private home in Foster City and its address will be released closer to the event.

22/7 — not the famous number Pi, but a better approximation than we have a reason to expect. If this is not proof that God loves us and wants us to be happy, especially on July 22nd (as the Europeans would write the date), it’s not clear what would be! So come celebrate this geeky tradition with our European Pi Day Potluck Shabbat.

Event: Jews’ Next Dor July 4th Kosher Barbecue & Pool Party

It’s summertime — or at least it should be by July — so Jews’ Next Dor is firing up the grill for our 2nd annual July 4th Kosher Barbecue! That’s right: this time, we’re providing the food, so you don’t have to. In fact, in order to keep this event strictly kosher, we’re explicitly asking you not to bring any food at all. We’re sure you have an awesome recipe for this or that dish — if it’s vegetarian/dairy, we look forward to tasting it at the next Shabbat Potluck.

Once again, you’ll have your choice of our grill master’s specialty hamburgers or marinated skinless, boneless chicken breasts, plus all-you-can-eat hot dogs. Don’t worry, vegetarians! We’ll have some parve veggie burgers too. We will also be serving up buffet style sides, drinks, and desserts, all for the low low price of $10 per person. No, that’s not a typo. Like your bubbie, we just want you to save money and eat more kosher food. Help us out by visiting our WePay page in advance to let us know your entrée choice by June 26th.

As if all that great food and fellowship with other young adult noshers isn’t enough, be sure to bring swimsuits, flip flops, towels, sunscreen and other gear to frolic in our host’s pool! (Legal disclaimer: please don’t punish our host’s generosity by suing us or them if you get in an accident using the pool. As with any other Jews’ Next Dor event, you participate with us at your own risk.)

We’ll also have some classic party games on hand should the mood strike you (Twister, Apples to Apples, etc.) And to end the day with a bang, we’ll do our homework on firework viewing options in the area so that you, your old pals, and your newly-met friends can choose the one right for you.
