As they did last year, the recently renamed OFJCC is celebrating MLK day with a community wide day of doing good, a Mitzvah Day. I encourage anyone with the day off to participate. There’s lots of projects (Descriptions) to chose from, but be sure to register (Sunday Projects Monday Projects) in advance, as some activities have a limit on the number of people who can participate. Lots of the Palo Alto area Jewish community organizations are involved. Why on Martin Luther King Jr. day? Besides it being a day off from work for some, it’s continuing in his vision. As the website for the event quotes,
“Everybody Can Be Great, Because Anybody Can Serve” Martin Luther King, Jr.
“A community is too heavy for anyone to carry alone.” Based on Deuteronomy 1:9
This year there will projects on both Sunday and Monday (MLK day), January 18 and 19. They are also having events all weekend. You can also check out the event on Facebook.
Kol Emeth Young Adults will be participating in a couple of the projects and invite fellow young adults to join them.
Mitzvah Day EventJanuary 18, 2009As part of a community-wide program, Kol Emeth Young Adults will be doing their share for Mitzvah Day with a multi-faceted event. We will join Kol Emeth and the JCC in a blood drive and a sandwich-making event for a homeless shelter. Feel free to participate in both events or just one — we understand if you’re a bit squeamish! More details to come in January, but mark your calendars now.
