Noam Bedein

When at home in Sderot, in Southern Israel Noam Bedein, founder of Sderot Media Center, is no stranger to the sound of rocket fire and the aftermath, damage to the town. Now you can hear his story and what he’s doing about it, when he’s in Palo next week.

Noam will be speaking at 7:30pm at Congregation Kol Emeth, 4175 Manuela Avenue, Palo Alto, CA 94306

Here’s a video from Noam touring the Police Station’s collection of rockets from years of attacks and teaches about them.

Here’s what the event organizers have to say:

Can you imagine living your life everyday, wondering if a rocket might strike your house or a family member at any moment? That is the reality for Noam Bedein, a resident of the small, embattled Israeli community of Sderot.

We will have the extraordinary opportunity of hearing Bedein speak about his experiences Tuesday, April 29, when he will make a stop at Kol Emeth during a brief tour of the United States. He will discuss the ongoing situation in Sderot, which has been subjected to thousands of rocket and mortar attacks from Gaza since the Israeli disengagement in August 2005. Sderot and other towns in southern Israel have been targets of Qassam rockets, steel cylinders packed with explosives.

Eleven Israeli civilians have been killed in the attacks and many others have been injured. As a result of the ongoing terror, many of Sderot’s citizens – and in particular its children – suffer from post-traumatic stress disorder.

Bedein’s talk will begin at 7:30 p.m. Light refreshments will be served. The educational program is sponsored by Kol Emeth’s Israel Action and Social Action committees in cooperation with the Zionist Organization of America.
