Kol Rinah

May 1, 2009
No plans tomorrow night? Try out Kol Emeth’s brand-new, Carlebach-style Shabbat service. The evening starts with snacks at 5:30 pm, followed by a spirited Kabbalat Shabbat service at 6 pm with lots of singing and dancing. Hospitality will be offered for anyone looking to finish the evening with a Shabbat meal in someone’s home.
Young Adults Shabbat
May 15, 2009

Join Kol Emeth’s Young Adults group on the third Shabbat morning each month!  Come sit with us (typically toward the back of the front section) or meet us for kiddush by the olive tree in the courtyard. If you’ve been meaning to come to synagogue but don’t have anyone to sit and schmooze with or are afraid there’s no one there your age, this is your chance to pray with your peers. Services begin at 9:15 a.m., but feel free to show up fashionably late! In April we had young adults lead services, read Haftorah and get aliyot, so if you’d like to participate by reading Torah, Haftorah, or leading a service, let us know. Also, if you’d like to learn to do these things, we can set you up with a teacher.

Shavuot Dinner

May 28, 2009
Feast on a delicious three-course dinner with wine to begin an engaging and meaningful all-night celebration commemorating the gift of the Torah. The event begins at 6:15 pm with a dairy meal for young adults only. Then you have the option to join congregants from Kol Emeth, Beth Am and Etz Chayim for Shavuot services and an all-night study session featuring text study, art, games and music led by over 20 distinguished teachers. Feel free to stay as long or as little as you’d like. And, yes, there will be blintzes!

Wunderlich Park Hike
May 31, 2009Join the young adult group of Congregation Kol Emeth and Jews’ Next Dor, the young adult group of Congregation Beth David (Saratoga), for a hike. We meant to do this route in February but got rained out.

We will go for about a 90-minute EASY hike and stroll in Wunderlich Park. Wunderlich Park features redwood forest, open meadows, beautiful oaks and madrones. The trail is hilly but not really steep, and we’ll hike at a pace that is mellow, groovy, and conducive to conversation.  The hike covers 5 miles, with 600 feet of elevation. Admit it.  You want to get out. The woods are beautiful, and the air smells great. Hiking boots and a bottle of water recommended but sneakers okay.  We’ll have a few extra water bottles in case you forget yours.

10 am: Meet at Wunderlich County Park, 4040 Woodside Road, Woodside
10:15 am: Hike takes off. Don’t be late.No RSVP needed but for info or to arrange a carpool, call Jay at (408) 668-4065.

Directions: To reach Wunderlich Park, take the Woodside Rd. (Hwy 84 West) exit from I-280.  Go 2.7 miles west towards the hills.  Look for the small brown entrance sign on your right. This sign is easy to miss, so note your odometer at I-280. When you get to the parking lot, look for the guy with the clipboard. Parking is free but can be tight, so carpooling is encouraged.

Kol Emeth’s Young Adults group is a volunteer, lay-led group, so please contact us if you have ideas for future events or wish to help run an event. To leave us a message, or to subscribe/unsubscribe from this list, please email
