Congradulations to the Rockower Jewish Journalism Award Winners

Last week the Simon Rockower 2008 Awards for Excellence in Jewish Journalism winners were announced, by the American Jewish Press Association.

CJ: Voices of Conservative/Masorti Judaism won two Rockower awards. Justice & Judaism: Community Organizing in the Conservative Movement by Daniel May and Peter Drier won second place for excellence in feature writing, and When It Doesn’t Work by Joanne Palmer won first place in the personal essay category.

A few other winners to note:

The Forward was a big winner.

J. The Jewish News Weekly of Northern California took 1st place in Overall Graphic Design

Berkeley’s Tikkun Magazine’s “Israel at 60” piece won 1st place in the the Special Section or Supplements category.

Zeek Media of San Francisco won 2nd place in the Louis Rapoport Award for Excellence in Commentary. “Menorahs and Mumbai,” “Sex by the Book,” and “Rabbinic Rulings and the Rectal Route,” by Angela Himsel. They won a 2nd place in Excellence in Single Commentary”Madoff: Rethinking Jewish Fundraising” by Jo Ellen Green Kaiser.

The Noah Bee Award for Excellence in Illustration and/or Editorial Cartooning went to Steve Greenberg of Simi Valley as his cartoons always hit the mark! Click on the links below to see a few.
