Ecumenical Hunger Program Urgent Need for Donations

Posted by challahbackgirl on December 21, 2009

Please help the community we live in this holiday season:

The Ecumenical Hunger Program, a 39-year-old nonprofit in East Palo Alto, is issuing an urgent plea for donations of holiday and food gift items to help meet growing demand this Christmas season. The program, the largest supplier of emergency food and other relief to low-income families on the Mid-Peninsula, has seen demand for its services rise by 30 percent in the last six months, compared to previous years, according to Susan Schofield, board chair for the nonprofit.

The group is in urgent need of chickens and hams for its food boxes, as well as gifts for teens. Suggested gift items for teens include: oversized sweatshirts with hoods; large remote control cars and trucks; digital cameras; MP3 players, gift cards to Target, WalMart, Best Buy and Safeway; and mall gift cards to the Newpark Mall in the East Bay.

Donations may be brought to the center, 2411 Pulgas Ave. (near Bay Road) in East Palo Alto, through Tuesday, Dec. 22. The center is open between 9a.m. and noon and 1 p.m. and 4 p.m.
