Apples and Honey Cook-off Event

Show off your culinary talents. Enter Jews’ Next Dor’s 3rd annual Apple and Honey Cook-off to be held on Sunday, August 29, 5pm at a Private home in Cupertino. RSVP for the address to jewsnextdor[at] Be sure to the read the rules in advance and carefully, to ensure your dish qualifies for judging. No competition would
be complete without prizes, but you must enter to win. Of course, you’re
welcome to come wish your fellow Jews’ Next Dor (Jewish 20 and 30
somethings) a sweet new year, without entering a dish, but please bring

Official Cook-off Rules, Regulations and Judging Criteria

Who is Eligible?

  • Any Jewish 20 or 30 something.
  • You and your dish(s) must be present on August 29th, starting at
    5pm at a private home in Cupertino to win.

Food Entry Requirements:

  • Dish must feature either apples or honey or both.
  • Dish must be parve or dairy.
  • Dish must be at least 50% homemade.
  • All items should be prepared in advanced, and brought cooked ready
    to serve. Plating is allowed at the cook-off.
  • Only standard paper goods will be provided.
  • All dishes will be consumed by participants and event attendees
    after judging.
  • Please provide enough of your dish that at least 30 people can have a portion.
  • If your dish contains nuts please clearly label it.
  • Name your entries.

Recipes for entries must be submitted to jewsnextdor[at] by Wednesday, August 25 at 11:59pm. (Recipes will be also be included on the recipe exchange on our website). A recipe must be submitted for all entries, or it will not be judged. Please have your recipe actually represent what you actually prepare. Include how many it servers or pieces it makes, which category (Savory or Sweet) it is being entered in.

All dishes to be judged must be there within 15 minutes of the
start time. Dishes to arrive late will not be judged, but may be consumed after all judging is completed.

The Judging:

  • There will be two categories. Savory and Sweet.
  • Entrants must decide which category to enter their dish in when submitting the recipe.
  • Each dish can only be judged in one category.
  • A first prize will be awarded for each category.
  • Each entrant can enter up to 2 dishes total across both categories.
  • Entrants do not need to enter both categories.
  • All judging will take place on Sunday, August 29th.
  • Each dish will be judged on originality (25%), presentation (25%)
    and flavor (50%).
  • Everyone present will get to judge all entries, other then their own.
  • Judging will be done on a point system, the dish with the most votes in each category gets first place.
  • Points may be deducted if Apples and Honey are not the center piece of the dish.
  • Points will be tallied by one or more Jews’ Next Dor
  • Chef of winning dishes will be awarded prizes.
