Laugh and Learn II: The Second Coming

Saturday, October 23 · 1:30pm – 2:30pm

Congregation Beth David
19700 Prospect Road
Saratoga, Ca

Join the congregation on the Fourth Shabbat of each month to “Laugh and Learn” with Doug Brook from September 2010 to June 2011.

Join Congregation Beth David for Shabbat morning services at 9:30am, stay and schmooze at lunch and then Laugh & Learn. Look for Young Adults near the back of services and join us at a back table during lunch.

Come see why sixty people didn’t throw tomatoes at last month’s inaugural session!

Laugh a lot, learn a little. Led by Doug Brook, this session will be 20% shorter, 25% more interactive, and 100% more statistically described than before.

This month’s exciting episode includes:

* A look ahead to Chanukah (no matter how you spell it, there’s only 34 shopping days left)

* A wry review of another recent year in Jewish and Israeli history, from his upcoming book “Generation Xodus: Forty Years of Wanderings (1972-2012)”

* Issues surrounding Superman’s conversion to Judaism

Based in part on his humor column, featured since 1996 in Southern Jewish Life magazine, Doug Brook will guide you through the lighter side of Judaism and the substance underneath it. Brook is a sometime synagogue instructor and some-other-time playwright, who last time was not struck by lightning (it hit a guy’s shoe in the first row instead).

No experience or previous knowledge required, for students or teacher. The less, the better.

Starts right after kiddush, by about 1:30. No membership or affiliation requirements. You don’t have to be knowledgeable, religious, or even Jewish.
