FIRE IN NORTHERN ISRAEL –A Message from the Congregation Beth David Rabbi’s

Posted by challahbackgirl on December 3, 2010

A call for action from the Rabbi’s of Congregation Beth David:

Friends,

As we prepare to kindle the flames of both Shabbat and Hanukkah, we are  saddened by the tragic devastation wrought in Israel by unwanted flames. At this moment, a brush fire that began in the Carmel area in Northern Israel is racing towards Haifa. 42 people have died  and more than 17,000 residents have been evacuated from their homes. The United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism, the Rabbinical Assembly, and the Masorti Foundation are  working together to coordinate relief efforts in Israel. A Fire Emergency Fund has been established at the Masorti Foundation. Proceeds will be used for 1) Immediate assistance to those in need; 2) Funding to support NOAM youth in the cleanup and relief efforts which will likely be required over a longer period of time; 3) Any remaining funds will be delivered to JNF as a gift from the Conservative/ Masorti movement.

Contributions can be made either by:

  1. Check mailed to the Masorti Foundation 475 Riverside Drive, Suite 832, New York, NY 10115 with the notation “Fire Emergency Fund”
  2. Call the Masorti Foundation at 212-870-2216 and make a credit card contribution
  3. Go online to www.masorti.org, click on Make a Contribution, and in the Program Designation, we will create a line for “Fire Emergency Fund.” Until that is done, use the Chesed Projects designation. All contributions for the Chesed Projects will be treated as for the Fire Emergency Fund.

Please join us in making a donation to help Israel in her time of need!

Shabbat Shalom and Hag Urim Sameah,

Rabbi Daniel Pressman
Rabbi Philip Ohriner
