President’s Message – Purim, Passover and MORE!

Posted by sjwisch on March 15, 2011

Shalom, Chaverim!  Jews’ Next Dor is SPRINGING into action with a host of events in the coming weeks.  We had a great time baking hamantaschen this past weekend – lots of chocolate, raspberry, apricot and butterscotch; and we learned about the sassy side of Purim with Rabbi Ohriner.  Thank you to all who joined us for these events.

This Saturday, March 19 is PURIM!  Congregation Beth David is hosting its Megillah Reading at 8 p. m.  So, come on down with your costumes and groggers and make some NOISE!  Then, join hundreds of young adults from across the Peninsula and South Bay for the Young Adult Purim Ball http://www.facebook.com/home.php#!/event.php?eid=153526174702945 at the OFJCC in Palo Alto.  There will be music, open bar, a costume contest, and of course, food!  Join us for a night of masks, and bring your friends with you.

On Sunday, March 20 – Jews’ Next Dor is heading to Broadway San Jose to see Fiddler on the Roof. There are 5 tickets left…so purchase your ticket NOW  https://www.wepay.com/tickets/view/171196. Cost is $23.00 to see the show.  The group will meet at the San Jose Center for Performing Arts at 12:15.  Enjoy this timeless classic!

Want the 411 on Jews’ Next Dor?  Join us for the Volunteer Meeting on Wednesday, March 23 at 7:30 pm at a private home in Mountain View.  We are calendaring out events for the next several months, including Meet & Greet dinners, hikes, Shabbat potlucks and more.  Our events do not happen without you – our volunteers – stepping up to plan them.  So please join us. Coming to the volunteer meeting does not commit you to anything further – so come find out what is going on!

Then, on Saturday, March 26, join us for our Shabbat Bash at Congregation Beth David in Saratoga. This day of rest promises to be very exciting and full of Shabbat activities.  JNDers are leading the Saturday morning service, and we still have some parts available (non-speaking and Hebrew), and then we will have kiddish lunch, “Laugh and Learn” with Doug Brook, a day of activities, and we close with Havdallah and dinner.  Please come for all or part of the day.  If you are staying for dinner, we need to place an order with the caterer, so PLEASE RSVP https://www.wepay.com/tickets/view/87829. Cost is $10/person for dinner.

PASSOVER IS COMING….Soon!  Rabbis Philip and Shoshana Ohriner are graciously opening up 20 spaces at their seder on both the first and second nights of Passover for Young Adults.  Just bring yourself and your energy for seder.  The Facebook invites are going out soon, with more information on how to reserve your spot.

And to ensure that all who need a place for seder, one of our members, Josh P. will also be hosting 2nd night’s seder at his home in Atherton, so watch for details on that as well.

As you can see, we have a fantastic lineup of things happening.  In my message last week, I asked you, our members, for feedback on what you like, don’t like and what needs to be improved upon in Jews’ Next Dor.  Your ideas are always welcome and thoughts are confidential. The board is happy to speak with anyone, so please share your thoughts at  JewsNextDor@beth-david.org.

Thank you for your support and dedication to Jews’ Next Dor. Have a wonderful week.

Chag Purim Sameach,

Sari Wisch, President
