What is Lag B’Omer?
According to Leviticus 23:15 we’re obligated to count the days from Passover to Shavout, this period is known as the Omer. The counting is to remind us that the redemption from slavery (noted during Passover) was not complete until we received the Torah on Shavout. This period is a partial time of mourning as such we refrain from certain activities. Lag B’Omer is the 33rd day of this period, on this day the restrictions are lifted and celebrations are held.
