Candidates for the Jews’ Next Dor Steering Committee December 2011

The January-June 2012 Jews’ Next Dor Steering Committee will be elected on December 8, 2011.  Seven people will be elected to seven undifferentiated positions, and will self-organize thereafter.  The seven candidates receiving the most votes will be elected, with the exception that at least one member of Congregation Beth David must be elected; as such, if none of the top-seven vote-getters are members of Congregation Beth David, the seventh-place vote-getter will be replaced by the Congregation Beth David member candidate receiving the most votes.  The candidates who declared by the candidacy deadline are:

Jews’ Next Dor	Congregation Beth David
Jews’ Next Dor is Congregation Beth David’s Young Adult Group. “Dor” means “generation” in Hebrew. We’re an active community of Jewish 20 and 30 somethings centered in the South Bay. We enjoy multiple events each month including celebrating holidays, social action/mitzvahs, education, and of course social events around the Bay Area. Our community is comprised of singles and couples and is fully volunteer-lead.	Congregation Beth David is an egalitarian congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Located in Saratoga, California, [MAP] Beth David encourages its members to be active participants in creating a vibrant Jewish community throughout Silicon Valley. Join Jews’ Next Dor as we team up with Jewish Family Services of Silicon Valley to start the Jewish new year by giving back to our community. Jews’ Next Dor is an active community of Jewish 20 and 30 somethings centered in the South Bay. The Jewish Family Services (http://www.jfssv.org/) are a non-profit agency, serving clients without regard to race, religion, ethnicity, or ability to pay.

The Jewish Family Services plans to make about 300 food packages to be delivered to families and seniors the week before Rosh Hashana. Meet us in the classroom of Jewish Family Services (second floor, in front of the elevator door) at 7PM on Monday, September 19th to help assemble the food packages.

Eat and drink under the stars as we give thanks to the many volunteers that make Jews’ Next Dor the fantastic organization it is today. Jews’ Next Dor would not be possible without the ongoing dedication of our many coordinators. Hear the fun stories and share the laughter with us as we show our appreciation for our volunteers and all the hard work they do.

We will also be kicking off this year’s toy drive for the Jewish Family Service. Please bring new toys (ages 0-17) to spread joy to the less-fortunate children of the community during this holiday season. Jews’ Next Dor will again be attending and participating in High Holy Day services with Congregation Beth David. United 93 Showing Sunday, September 11, 2011 7pm-10pm Private Home in Sunnyvale Incredibly, it has been ten years since the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001.  On what is now known as Patriots’ Day, Jews’ Next Dor comes together to remember and reflect upon the tragic events of that day.  We as a people understand better than most the importance of never forgetting–in this case, we make use of good cinema to help us recall.  United 93, a fictional recreation of the events of September 11 from the perspective of the fourth hijacked plane–the one that never made it to its intended target because of the heroism of the passengers on board–is a very tough movie to watch.  Yet it is precisely this sort of catharsis that makes us stronger: as friends, as a people, and as a nation. Due to the limited space of the venue, this event is open only to the first 15 RSVPs to jewsnextdor@beth-david.org.  RSVPs on the Facebook event are welcome, but are not considered “official” RSVPs for quota purposes.  RSVPs beyond the first 15 will be queued on a waiting list, and will be notified of availability as soon as possible. Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes on Team Jews’ Next Dor Sunday, October 9, 2011 8am-2pm Guadalupe River Park, Arena Green East (across from HP Pavilion main entrance), 525 W. Santa Clara St., San Jose, CA 95113 Jews’ Next Dor is taking part in Step Out: Walk to Stop Diabetes to support the American Diabetes Association (ADA) on Sunday, October 9, 2011 in San Jose. Join Team Jews’ Next Dor and raise funds to help the ADA provide community-based education programs, protect the rights of people with diabetes and fund critical research for a cure. Jews’ Next Dor is Congregation Beth David’s Young Adult Group. “Dor” means “generation” in Hebrew. We’re an active community of Jewish 20 and 30 somethings centered in the South Bay. We enjoy multiple events each month including celebrating holidays, social action/mitzvahs, education, and of course social events around the Bay Area. Our community is comprised of singles and couples and is fully volunteer-lead.	Congregation Beth David is an egalitarian congregation affiliated with the United Synagogue of Conservative Judaism. Incredibly, it has been ten years since the horrific attacks of September 11, 2001. On what is now known as Patriots’ Day, Jews’ Next Dor comes together to remember and reflect upon the tragic events of that day. We as a people understand better than most the importance of never forgetting–in this case, we make use of good cinema to help us recall. United 93, a fictional recreation of the events of September 11 from the perspective of the fourth hijacked plane–the one that never made it to its intended target because of the heroism of the passengers on board–is a very tough movie to watch. Yet it is precisely this sort of catharsis that makes us stronger: as friends, as a people, and as a nation.

Due to the limited space of the venue, this event is open only to the first 15 RSVPs to jewsnextdor@beth-david.org. RSVPs on the Facebook event are welcome, but are not considered “official” RSVPs for quota purposes. RSVPs beyond the first 15 will be queued on a waiting list, and will be notified of availability as soon as possible.
