Join Jews’ Next Dor for our monthly potluck Shabbat dinner! This event is at a private home in San Jose and its address will be released closer to the event.

The host will provide challah, wine, the main dishes, cutlery and plates.  Please bring a vegetarian/dairy appetizer, side, dessert, and/or drink to share.  If there is a particular thing you want to share with us, please do; if you aren’t sure what to bring, please follow these suggestions to help us get an even distribution of courses:

If your last name begins with A – G, please bring a DRINK
If your last name begins with H – M, please bring a DESSERT
If your last name begins with N – R, please bring an APPETIZER
If your last name begins with S – Z, please bring a SIDE/SALAD

**Note: if the host contacts you about bringing a main dish, you do NOT also need to bring something else from this list.

Jews’ Next Dor Game Night

Mini-Golf with Jews’ Next Dor

When: 10 am – 1 pm, July 8, 2012

Where: Emerald Hills Golfland, 976 Blossom Hill Road, San Jose

Mini-Golf, The Game of Champions! Or at least the Game of Champions of Mini-Golf!

Come and join Jews’ Next Dor as we head to Emerald Hills Golfland in San Jose for some mini-golf fun in the sun! We will be there from 10am until about 1pm, and try and play at least one full round.

The cost is $8 per round, per person.

July 4th Kosher BBQ & Pool Party

When: 11:30 am – 4 pm, July 4, 2012

Where: Private Home, RSVP for the Address, San Jose

Come join your fellow Jews’ Next Dor friends as we fire up the grill and head poolside to celebrate the 4th of July!

Our Kosher BBQ will feature a delicious meal prepared by a team of Jews’ Next Dor volunteers, including your choice of a hamburger, a chicken burger, or a veggie burger, plus all-you-can-eat hot dogs. We’ll also be serving up buffet style sides, drinks, and desserts, all for $10 per person. In order to keep this event strictly kosher, we ask that you don’t bring any food at all. We’re sure you have an awesome recipe for this or that dish — we look forward to tasting it at the next Shabbat Potluck. For now, let us treat you!

To make this event a success, volunteers are needed. Some of the tasks include: shopping for food, preparing salads and other items, set up, passing around the attendance list, handing out meal tickets, grilling/cooking, and clean up. Those willing to help out, please send a quick email to JewsNextDor@beth-david.org and indicate which little task you would prefer to assist with. One of the event’s organizers will then contact you with further information.

As if all that great food and fellowship with other young adult noshers isn’t enough, be sure to bring swimsuits, flip flops, towels, sunscreen and other gear to frolic in our host’s pool!

Jews’ Next Dor Goes To the Movies! Rio Bravo

Rio Bravo, staring John Wayne, Dean Martin  and Ricky Nelson: a western classic and part of the Stanford Theatres Howard Hawks Marathon.

A small-town sheriff in the American West enlists the help of a cripple, a drunk, and a young gunfighter in his efforts to hold in jail the brother of the local bad guy. All that, and a song from Dean Martin

Come join Jews’ Next Dor as we take in this 1959 classic for the 7:30 showing at the majestic Stanford Theatre at 221 University Avenue in Palo Alto.

Tickets are $7.00.

Candidates for the Jews’ Next Dor Steering Committee, June 2012

The June-December 2012 Jews’ Next Dor Steering Committee will be elected on June 7, 2012, at 8 pm in a private location (RSVP for the address). Seven people will be elected to seven undifferentiated positions, and will self-organize thereafter. The seven candidates receiving the most votes will be elected, with the exception that at least one member of Congregation Beth David must be elected; as such, if none of the top-seven vote-getters are members of Congregation Beth David, the seventh-place vote-getter will be replaced by the Congregation Beth David member candidate receiving the most votes. Lag B’Omer BBQ and Bonfire with JSN

33 Days after Passover, comes the holiday of Lag BaOmer. Some say it commemorates the end of a plague which killed thousands of Rabbi Akiva’s students, some, the yahrzeit of Rabbi Shimon bar Yochai, author of the Zohar, while others say that it commemorates the Bar KokhbaRevolt against the Roman Empire.

Whatever the case may be, come with Jews’ Next Dor as we join with the Jewish Study Network for an exciting Lag BaOmer celebration, including a fire dance, live music, great torah, BBQ, socializing and, of course, a bonfire!
