International Holocaust Remembrance at SJ City Hall

Posted by challahbackgirl on January 26, 2008

From JValley.org.

International Holocaust Remembrance at SJ City Hall January 29, 1:30 p.m.

In keeping with the United Nations Resolution 60/7 adopted on November 1, 2005, which declares the week of January 27 to be an international week of commemoration in memory of the victims of the Holocaust, the City Council of San Jose will present a proclamation to local survivors Henry and Joan Stone during the ceremonial items preceding the regular city council meeting on Tuesday, January 29 at 1:30 p.m. Many other survivors will also be in attendance, and will be acknowledged, receiving copies of the proclamation. In addition, Deputy Consul General of Israel Ismail Khaldi will speak.

Councilman Forrest Williams is the sponsor of this proclamation, which has been presented each year since the UN Resolution was passed. The Holocaust Survivor Association of Silicon Valley invites all attendees to join them for coffee and conversation following the proclamation at the Martin Luther King Library Cafe. Parking is free in the City Hall parking structure by validating tickets in the back of the City Council Chambers. For further information contact Diane Fisher at (408) 357-7504.

Henry and Joan Stone are long time Congregation Beth David Members and active in the greater Jewish community.

Please mark your calendars for our Annual Holocaust Remembrance Program, 4 PM to 5 PM on April 14, 2008 at the County Board of Supervisors. This program is being sponsored by Supervisor Pete Mc Hugh, and will include local high school students and local Holocaust Survivors presenting “Untold Stories of the Holocaust”. The themes will include stories about Women of the Holocaust, Jews Deported to China, and Jews in North Africa. This is multicultural event, and students who participate will receive extra credit or community service hours.
